The essence of Baccarat is to outsmart the banker by predicting which hand will be closest to a total of 9 points. You can place your bets on three different outcomes:
- Banker wins.
- Player wins.
- A Tie.
Make sure to place your bet before the cards are dealt during the betting phase. The dealer will indicate when the betting is open, with on-screen prompts. Once the betting phase concludes, two cards will be dealt to both the player’s box and the banker’s box.
Card Values
To determine points, simply add the values of your cards. Tens and face cards are worth zero, while other cards hold their face value—like a 4 being 4 points, or an 8 being 8 points. If your total exceeds ten, only the last digit is considered. Here are a few examples:
- 2 + 5 = 7 points in total. The hand value is 7.
- 4 + 8 = 12 points in total. The hand value is 2.
To come out on top, you need to accurately bet on which hand will get closest to 9: the player's or the banker's.
3rd Card Rules
There are specific house rules that dictate when a third card will be drawn, with a maximum of three cards allowed per hand.
The player must draw an additional card if their initial two cards total between 0 and 5, while standing on totals of 6 to 9.
A 'natural win' occurs when the first two cards total 8 or 9. In this case, the game concludes, and you'll receive your winning bets, with no third card drawn.
The third card rule for the banker varies based on whether the player stands or draws another card, but no need to worry about memorizing it—all those details will be handled by the dealer.
- The banker will draw a card if their first two cards total 0, 1, or 2.
- The banker will stand in case a 'natural win' is dealt.
- If the banker’s initial hand sums to 7 points, they will also stand.
- Should the banker begin with a value of 6 points and the player did not draw another card, the banker will stand.
- If the banker's total is 3, 4, 5, or 6 points and the player has drawn a third card, the banker will act according to the following guidelines:
Bank Hand Initial Total | Banker draws a card when the player’s third card is | Banker stands when the player’s third card is |
3 | 0-7 and 9 | 8 |
4 | 2 to 7 | 0, 1 and 8, 9 |
5 | 4 to 7 | 0 to 3 and 8, 0 |
6 | 6 and 7 | 0 to 5 and 8, 9 |
